Eight U.S. carriers received tentative approval to operate direct flights to Jose Marti International Airport just outside of Havana, Cuba’s capital, from the Department of Transportation on Thursday, July 7.
Alaska Airlines, American, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest, Spirit and United all received claim to one or more of the 20 possible Havana routes, with the majority of flights occurring out of Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
According to USA Today "interested parties" have until July 22 to submit comments or objections to the DOT, which expects to reach a final decision on routes later this summer.
