El San Juan Hotel to Close for Renovation

SAN JUAN/ISLA VERDE, Puerto Rico

The El San Juan Hotel & Casino announced it will undergo a multimillion-dollar renovation beginning on Aug. 15, 2016, resulting in a temporary closure. The update is slated for completion in early 2017.

The transformation will include renovations to the resort’s guest rooms, pool area, meeting and entertainment spaces, food and beverage venues, and its spa and fitness facilities.

“El San Juan is truly a one-of-a-kind property that we look forward to revitalizing,” said Andro Nodarse-León of León Mayer & Co., one of the owners of the resort. “The updates will pay homage to the historical status of this property as an iconic luxury lifestyle and entertainment resort.”

The 387-room El San Juan, which opened in 1957 and was originally designed by Morris Lapidus and Max Borges, overlooks two miles of pristine beach in the Isla Verde district, Puerto Rico. The property offers an 11,000-square-foot grand ballroom space, three pools, nine award-winning restaurants, 15 active bars, a popular nightclub, a 7,500-square-foot casino and it rests on 12 acres of Isla Verde Beach.

Located two miles from Puerto Rico’s international airport, El San Juan is said to be situated in a neighborhood known for its beautiful beaches, eclectic restaurants and bars.
