MIAMI BEACH
Five new locally acquired Zika cases were reported in Florida by Gov. Rick Scott, including one transmission that occurred in Pinellas County. The other four cases are believe to be in Miami Beach’s Wynwood Neighborhood, where the health department is working to clear out traces of the virus.
According to the Sun Sentinel, Gov. Rick Scott announced $5 million in funding for “mosquito control and Zika preparedness” in Miami-Dade County, while representatives are calling for further federal funding.
U.S. Travel President and CEO Roger Dow recently weighed in on the spread of Zika in the U.S., saying that the majority of the U.S. should “feel free to go about their business” in Florida and elsewhere.
