Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing (PCTSM) selected Al Snow as the new tourism sales representative, Meetings, Conventions and Events after Carol DeHaven, who held the position for 16 years, retired at the end of May following a 37 year career with Polk County.
Snow has been with PCTSM for four and a half years in the position of communications specialist. In his new role, he will be responsible for business development and execution of meetings, conventions and special events in Polk County, plus oversight of marketing strategies for outdoor recreation tourism segments including fishing, golf, hiking, nature/ecotourism and other outdoor pursuits.
“Throughout his time with us, Al has been instrumental in the recruitment, planning and execution of several high-profile events such as the Florida SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference, the International Practical Shooting Confederation World Championships, the Southeastern Outdoor Press Association’s Annual Conference and most recently the 2016 Miss Florida Pageant,” said Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing Director, Mark Jackson.
As communications specialist, Snow oversaw public relations efforts for sporting events hosted by Central Florida’s Polk County Sports Marketing and has served as host for the weekly sports radio show, “Sports Central” and as a co-host for the bi-weekly “Sports Central” television show.
Prior to joining Visit Central Florida, Snow had spent more than 15 years working in the outdoor sports industry. He was the manager of event marketing and sponsorship for ESPN Outdoors where he handled all sponsorship negotiation, activation and event marketing for B.A.S.S., ESPN Outdoors and ESPN Saltwater Series television programming.
Prior to ESPN, Snow served as director of marketing and public relations for the publishing company that published Golfweek Magazine, Fish and Fly Magazine, Golf Life Orlando and several other consumer periodicals. He also has served as a director of marketing with the PGA Tour.
PCTSM, also known nationally as Visit Central Florida, is the official destination marketing organization for Polk County, Fla.
