MONTEREY, Calif.

The Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau (MCCVB) appointed Mark McMinn as the new vice president of sales.

“We are so excited to welcome Mark to the team,” says Tammy Blount, president and CEO of the MCCVB. “He has great talent and experience as well as creative ideas and a collaborative approach which will be an asset as we unveil our renovated Monterey Conference Center and continue to grow the group market.”

Prior to joining the MCCVB, McMinn was the director of sales & destination services at Team San Jose where he led a team of group, leisure, catering and services professionals. In his five years with the company, McMinn guided the team, clients and destination through the renovation of the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. McMinn also dedicated his time as a lecturer at San Jose State University, teaching students the Art of the Trade Show.

McMinn has been in the hospitality and tourism industry for more than 25 years. During that time, he has worn many hats including chef, catering executive, senior convention services manager, corporate trainer and more. McMinn has also worked with Marriott, Wyndham and Doubletree hotel brands as well as the Detroit, Tempe and San Jose Destination Marketing Organizations.

McMinn was recently recognized as a 2016 Bay Area Meetings Industry Excellence Awards nominee in the “Legend” award category. The awards are hosted by the Professional Convention Management Association Northern California Chapter. McMinn has also served on the boards of directors for the Arizona Sunbelt Chapter and Northern California Chapter of Meeting Professional International and was selected as “Supplier of the Year” by both chapters.

“I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to work with such a wonderful team, and Monterey County is an exceptionally beautiful and inspiring destination. Being of service and contributing to the community's economic growth through tourism and meetings is what I am passionate about,” says McMinn.

Representing all of Monterey County, the MCCVB’s mission is to grow the tourism industry for the destination through marketing and sales initiatives. The destination is currently experiencing an influx of investment in property renovations and additions including a $60 million renovation of the Monterey Conference Center, which is expected to open in early spring 2017.
