The Convention Industry Council (CIC) announced it is now the Events Industry Council (EIC), and revealed a new logo to correspond with its name change. After what the organization referred to as "a rigorous process to understand the needs of all organizations represented," the EIC said the name change recognizes the value and relevance it provides to its members as the global champion for event professionals and the industry.
"As the leading organization representing the wide variety of professions and professionals in the events industry, the Board of Directors recognized a need to refresh and refine our brand to better serve our members and members' constituents," said Susan Robertson, CAE, EIC Chair. "Guided by a highly-skilled Brand Task Force, the process has been incredibly thorough. We reached out to leaders and influencers on a global level."
The EIC said it will continue to lead the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) program, advancing the education, certification and professionalism of the industry. The CMP will also receive an updated logo.
"Our industry is an exciting one, and it's an honor to represent so many strong organizations and professionals with the CMP designation," said Karen Kotowski, CAE, CMP, president and CEO, Events Industry Council. "The new look of our CMP logo represents the fresh ideas and quality that each [CMP] brings to his/her employer and clients. Our CMP designation is powered by the [EIC], and we are proud to have that clearly displayed."
According to the EIC website, the replacement of “Convention” for “Events” in the name was determined by its outreach to members, where “events” was the most universal , progressive and preferred descriptor.
In February 2017, the CIC switched management to SmithBucklin and moved to a new Washington, D.C., headquarters. More information on that announcement is available in our previous news coverage.
