Several major nonprofit organizations, including the American Cancer Society, the Cleveland Clinic, the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Susan G. Komen canceled contracted Mar-a-Lago events in wake of President Trump’s comments blaming “both sides” of protestors for violence in Charlottesville, Va.
The Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach and the Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society also canceled planned Mar-a-Lago galas over the weekend. The American Friends of Magen David was one of the initial charitable groups to cancel its 2018 gala on Thurs., Aug. 17, which was to be held at Mar-a-Lago.
As many as 14 charities have canceled Mar-a-Lago events at this time, according to an Aug. 21 update from NBC News, which reported that "in all, 14 have canceled and only two events remain: The Palm Beach Police Foundation's annual Policeman Ball and the Palm Beach County Republican Party's annual Lincoln Day Dinner."
The Washington Post estimated Mar-a-Lago may lose roughly $1.1 million in revenue due to the cancellations.
