NEW YORK, BOSTON, EASTERN U.S.
Airlines canceled nearly 4,000 flights as of midafternoon on Thursday due to a massive winter storm impacting the East Coast and more cancellations are possible for Friday, according to USA Today.
Here is a list of a few of the most heavily impacted airports:
- Flights at John F. Kennedy International Airport have been temporarily suspended due to strong winds and whiteout conditions, according to the airport’s Twitter account (@JFKairport).
- Newark’s LaGuardia Airport temporarily suspended flights due to high winds and heavy snow and Newark Liberty International Airport said weather conditions are affecting many flights.
- Boston Logan Airport has canceled hundreds of flights and recommended that passengers traveling through the airport on Thursday check with their airline for updated flight information.
The winter weather also brutalized the Southeastern U.S., with several communities in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia facing the threat of ice, snow and record low temperatures.
Even Florida, generally a safe haven from winter weather, was hit by rare snow and low temperatures. Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld closed their waterparks in advance of the icy weather.
