Kimpton Hotels Maintains Strong D.C. Presence

Late founder Bill Kimpton, who held heartfelt compassion for his guests, would be proud. Holding a commanding position in D.C., its top market for nearly two decades, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants offers some 55,000 square feet of combined space in 11 Capital Region properties, including flagship Hotel Topaz (2001) in D.C. and Lorien Hotel & Spa in Old Town Alexandria.

With a prime King Street address, the Lorien unveiled a $2.51 million “dream-inspired” redesign in April 2018, covering all 107 guest rooms; 5,600 square feet of group space, including event-capable private courtyards and outdoor terraces; and adjacent French brasserie BRABO.

Close to Capitol Hill and the Supreme Court, the acclaimed 139-room Kimpton George Hotel, offering four stylish meeting and banquet rooms, enjoys popularity with Washington’s power players. Custom packages include “Friend of the Court,” geared to flexible lodging, meeting space and services for law firms and clients at trial. Plus, there is private dining at James Beard winner Jeffrey Buben’s Bistro Bis.

Housed in the National Historic Landmark former General Post Office, the 184-room Kimpton Hotel Monaco Washington D.C., with lion’s head medallions among “powerful” design features, is a monumental Penn Quarter base. Once the Postmaster General’s library, the elegant Paris Ballroom hosts 300-capacity events, while the new Glass House atrium hosts receptions and evening events.

On Logan Circle close to the 14th Street action, creative cocktails and 70-capacity rooftop events lure groups to the 157-room Kimpton Mason & Rook Hotel. At 335-room Kimpton Hotel Palomar Washington DC near Dupont Circle groups can book hands-on “You Be the Chef” breaks with Ethan McKee, executive chef of sustainability-focused Italian restaurant Urbana.

Promoting D.C.’s beautification under the late 19th century City Beautiful movement, banker-philanthropist Charles Carroll Glover’s legacies include Rock Creek Park, the National Zoo and above Georgetown, picturesque Glover Park.

With its hilltop perch and nature-inspired design, 154-room Kimpton Glover Park powerfully associates with its neighborhood’s namesake. Spaces include the recently revamped 200-capacity Rock Creek Ballroom, the intimate Deck, cocktail garden and James Beard winner Michael Schlow’s Casolare.

Through January 2019, overnight and transient groups at all 11 properties can book exclusively discounted breakouts, private guided tour included, at the National Geographic Museum’s Titanic: The Untold Story exhibition.
