Kurt J. Krause Named President & CEO of VisitNorfolk

NORFOLK, Va.

Following an extensive national search, the board of directors for the Norfolk Convention and Visitors Bureau (VisitNorfolk) has named Kurt J. Krause as president and chief executive officer of the organization, effective January 7, 2019.

“We are excited to have Kurt join our team,” said Tom Van Benschoten, chairman of VisitNorfolk board of directors. “With more than three decades of experience working in hospitality, private enterprise, higher education and federal government, the considerable and varied nature of his background makes him the perfect choice to market Norfolk as a great destination to live, work, visit and do business.”

A native of Arlington, Virginia and a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Krause has spent much of his career working in Virginia across multiple industries. Most recently, he served as the managing director for high-profile hotel openings including Hilton Norfolk The Main, Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront, The Cavalier Virginia Beach, and the Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront.

Prior to those positions, Krause served as vice president of business affairs at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, as well as the senior advisor and executive director for consumer advocacy for the Transportation Security Administration.

“Norfolk is a city very close to my heart and I feel truly honored to be selected by the board of directors,” said Krause. “The city’s dynamic reputation as a leader in arts, culture and as a place to live and do business has grown tremendously in recent years, and I look forward continuing the brilliant work of the VisitNorfolk team.”

Krause will succeed Sam Rogers, who has served as interim president and chief executive officer since January 8, 2018.
