Free Parking a Growing Trend in Las Vegas

Cosmopolitan hotel in Las Vegas is joining the list of properties offering free self- and valet parking fees for overnight hotel guests as of January 1, 2019. The parking fee was previously $10 per night, however, the hotel is simultaneously raising the daily resort fee by $4 per night, going from $35 to $39.

Day visitors at the Cosmopolitan without will still be charged hourly parking fees.

The property joins the Wynn and Encore hotels, which began offering free self and valet parking as of July 1, 2018. Both properties charge a $39 per night resort fee that did not increase after the change.

“Our guests choose to stay with us because of the attention we give to perfecting every detail of their experience,” said Maurice Wooden, president of Wynn Las Vegas, in a written statement. “We have come to believe that charging additional parking fees is counter to the personalized service we provide. This new policy directly reflects the way we know our guests want and deserve to be treated.”

There are other options for visitors to get free parking at different resorts. Free parking at Caesars’ Las Vegas properties, including Caesars Palace, Bally’s, Harrah’s, Planet Hollywood, Paris and the Flamingo, can be achieved using the Total Rewards program. Visitors can match their Wyndham Rewards Platinum or Diamond status to Total Rewards for free parking at the Platinum, Diamond and Seven Star levels.

Resort fees are also waived for Diamond and Seven Star members.

For those with Hyatt elite status, that can be matched to M life, as even the lowest level of Hyatt elite status matches to M life Pearl status, which is enough for free self-parking at the Bellagio, MGM, Mandalay Bay, Aria and other M life resorts. Without using status benefits, self-parking can cost up to $18 per night.

MGM Resorts kicked off the trend of charging parking fees on the Vegas Strip in 2016 and since that time several major resort properties on the Las Vegas Strip implemented some form of parking fees.
