Groups Can Now Enjoy Historic Bowling at The Howard

The Howard, an Oshkosh, Wisconsin, property that includes an event space, a concert hall and a café, debuted The Lanes, a vintage-style bowling alley.

The 10-lane bowling alley is located in the building’s basement below the Grand Ballroom and Great Hall. The space evokes a speakeasy vibe with 1920 design, yet modern elements like automatic lanes, plush couches and a private viewing room.

The Lanes serves food, cocktails, wine and craft beer

Groups can reserve the space for private function as well as for teambuilding events. Additional Event space includes the 5,100-square-foot ballroom and the 1,800-square-foot Great Hall.

The 33,000-square-foot building first opened doors as a men’s only fraternal Eagles Club, which served as venue for community events and statewide conventions. The concert hall was also once used for lavish balls, boxing and wrestling matches and a variety of concerts.

Sisters Carey Sharpe and Jenna Golem restored the property and opened The Howard in 2018.

“We love the idea that this original boys club is now being revived by two sisters,” said co-owner Carey Sharpe.

“It’s pretty ironic that 90 years ago the space was designed for men only and now Jenna and I are literally breaking ground to make something new for everyone to enjoy," she added.
