What's New in D.C. for 2019: Hotel and Event Venue Highlights

Washington, D.C., has so many new and upcoming developments it can be hard to keep up. Here’s a run-down of what is new in the area for planners considering the city.

The 360-room Conrad Washington DC opened in April 2019 in downtown’s CityCenterDC neighborhood and offers 32,000 square feet of meeting space, including the 19,000-square-foot pre-function Gallery, five boardrooms and two ballrooms.

It also has a rooftop lounge and event terrace with Capitol views, the private Sakura Club, and Estuary restaurant complete with an open kitchen and outdoor terrace.  

Opened in November 2018 adjacent to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, the dual-branded 357-room Courtyard and 147-suite Residence Inn Washington at Downtown/Convention Center offers 18,000-plus square feet of combined space.

Scheduled for September 2019, The REACH is the dramatic $175 million expansion of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Highlights include 72,000 square feet of performance and events space, 130,000 square feet of landscaping and gardens, outdoor stage and video wall, and terrace seating for up to 1,600 people.

The new 140,000-square-foot International Spy Museum in L’Enfant Plaza opened in May 2019 and more than doubles the space of the original building.

New memorials are coming to historic D.C. Next year, openings include the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial (May 2020), National World War I Memorial (fall 2020), and National Native American Veterans Memorial (November 2020).

Completion of the $25 million renovation of the Lincoln Memorial is expected ahead of the monument’s centennial dedication in 2022.

Phase 2 of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project, connecting D.C. to Dulles International Airport via an extension of the Silver Line, is targeting completion in 2020.
