Kimpton Hotel Monaco Chicago unveiled a new look in its lobby, guest rooms and suites. The redesign of these spaces was inspired by Lake Michigan and the development along the Chicago Riverwalk, which is visible from the hotel’s window seats.
The completion of the lobby project marked the final phase of the property’s renovation. This living room-style space is framed by the front desk with a pressed glass covering, which is meant to represent the Chicago River frozen in winter.
The lobby invites meeting, working and lingering thanks to varied seating areas, numerous outlets, WiFi, morning coffee and tea service and a library cart curated by the Newberry Library, where guests can check out books from during their stay.
The lobby further encourages guests and Chicagoans to stay and relax into the evening around a custom-built wine table, the focal point for nightly wine hour and a new nightcap service.
Curated by the hotel’s restaurant, Fisk & Co., the nightcap hour is for both guests and visitors, with cocktails and paired bites served tableside, plus live music on select nights.
The century-old building has a colorful past as the former headquarters of the D.B. Fisk & Co. hat company. Playful references to that history remain throughout the hotel and at Fisk & Co., which opened last year on the ground floor.
Vintage-inspired hats from the millinery 10th Street Hats are available for purchase in the lobby and suites. Fashion students at nearby Columbia College designed hats and accessories—coursework for the school’s newly created millinery class—that will be displayed in the lobby and worn by hotel staff.
In addition to the lobby, the Monaco’s 191 guest rooms and 22 suites received the full renovation treatment. The upgraded guest rooms and bathrooms feature luxe materials and contemporary amenities, including new 55-inch televisions with full streaming capabilities, tiled walk-in showers with marble accents, rain showerheads and yoga mats tucked in the closets.
The suites offer generous spaces for working and relaxing, with oversized bathrooms and a separate sitting area in each. Large bay windows in the rooms remain a Monaco Chicago signature.
The property offers more than 4,100 square feet of meeting space, including the Paris Ballroom with capacity for 300 people and the Tokyo Boardroom which can accommodate 30 guests.
