Destination DC, the official DMO for Washington, D.C., announced that William Adams has been appointed as director of convention sales. In this position, Adams will work to bring meetings of all sizes to the nation's capital. He will also oversee Destination DC's convention sales team and work alongside the DMO's vice president of convention sales and services, Melissa A. Riley.
“Bill’s leadership experience and customer-centric approach to sales will undoubtedly continue to elevate Destination DC initiatives as well as the city’s presence within the meetings and conventions realm,” Riley said in a press release. “I’ve seen Bill’s talent over the years, as I had the pleasure of working with him many years ago in DC and our paths crossed regularly at industry events. Now I couldn’t be happier to work together to achieve the same mission as the DC meetings and events industry recovers.”
Adams joins Destination DC with more than 15 years of experience in the attraction, tourism and hospitality industry. His most recent role was national sales manager with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, where he oversaw 800 active accounts and generated 16% growth while bringing in business with an economic impact of $473 million, which represented nearly one million hotel room nights. Other previous roles include leading sales efforts for the Norfolk CVB, Syracuse CVB and the Annapolis CVB.
“I’m thrilled to join the Destination DC team,” Adams said in a press release. “Early in my career, as a member of the group sales team at the Newseum, working with DDC was a huge part of the strategy for attracting visitors. So to have the opportunity to represent my hometown of Washington, DC is a full circle moment in my professional career. I truly look forward to serving our hotel community and the many customers seeking the perfect home for their next meeting, conference or convention.”
