Staying connected in a disconnected world has been one of the biggest challenges of the pandemic era, and at in-person meetings and events, where many people haven’t met each other or even socially mingled much in more than two years, it can be an even bigger obstacle.
Enter JabberYak. JabberYak is an innovative, social engagement company that offers unique products as ice breakers to introduce people based on shared interests.
“The idea is to get back to the basics,” said Gail Levinthal, CEO of JabberYak. “We want to get people talking in meaningful and relevant ways.”
JabberYak’s ice breakers come in several forms: T-shirts, event badges, name tags and office name plates. Based on a seven degrees of interest concept, the goal is to connect people based on at least one of seven interests attendees pick, which are then printed on an ice breaker.
“It’s all about guests having a positive experience,” Levinthal said. Using these ice breakers can effectively ease anxiety and tension in an environment, when many people often turn to their cell phones instead, she added.

Event badges have the added option of a QR code, which can be used to reference a directory or an itinerary of events, or used as a networking tool in the form of a scavenger hunt in which participants must mingle with one another in order to find the interests listed in the hunt. Planners can have multiple QR codes based on the needs of the event.
Data Analytics Tool
An added tool JabberYak provides for event and meeting planners is a data analytics tool that keeps track of attendees’ preferences and can pinpoint a common denominator, which can then be used to enhance guests’ experience. Levinthal cited one event in which bourbon tasting was a common interest among attendees, so a mixology event was held at the next meeting.
JabberYak isn’t just for meetings and events, however. It can also can be used by companies as a marketing retention tool to show employee appreciation. Employers can add a personal touch to their employees’ occupation by honing in on interests. One doctor’s office, Levinthal said, used JabberYak for its employees and discovered that many of them enjoyed tea, so each staffer received a gift card for their favorite tea.

“It’s about using technology to get away from technology,” Levinthal said.
