Following three decades on the Las Vegas Strip, The Mirage Hotel & Casino is closing its doors this summer.
Hard Rock International—which completed its acquisition of The Mirage in late 2022—announced its plans this week to cease operations of The Mirage as of July 17, to begin the transformation of the property into the highly anticipated Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and Guitar Hotel Las Vegas, slated for opening in spring 2027.
With the transformation will come a new, 660-foot-tall guitar-shaped hotel tower that will replace the Mirage’s beloved volcano attraction that has enjoyed a central location on the Strip for 34 years.

“Over the next two months we will bid farewell to this iconic and historic property and then we will commence an incredible transformation,” the AAA Four-Diamond property announced on its Facebook page. “We look forward to the beginning of an exciting journey into a new era as Hard Rock Las Vegas will ignite the Strip with entertainment, innovation and world-class hospitality.”
Joe Lupo, president of The Mirage, also noted that plans to host collaborative hiring events with other employers in the Las Vegas community are underway, to aid Mirage team members with their job search.
The Mirage’s closure marks the second iconic property to close in Las Vegas this year, on the heels of the historic Tropicana Las Vegas announcing its closure in April, making way for a $1.5 billion Major League Baseball stadium.
