Visit Corpus Christi President & CEO to Step Down

Brett Oetting

After nearly five years at the helm of Corpus Christi’s DMO, Brett Oetting resigned from the organization effective October 31, according to Visit Corpus Christi.

Oetting submitted his resignation to Visit Corpus Christi Board of Directors President Sam Canavati October 1, saying “I walked into an underperforming and untrusted organization on the first day of COVID-19, the worst pandemic in 100 years. I am proud of what we have accomplished together and am grateful for the support of many board members throughout my tenure."

During Oetting’s tenure at the organization, Visit Corpus Christi was named the 2022 Texas Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus Organization of the Year and earned multiple state, national and international awards. Notable initiatives under Oetting’s leadership include the creation of the Corpus Christi Sports Commission and Corpus Christi Film & Music Commission.

Oetting’s departure left the executive committee scrambling to find a new leader, with the board calling an emergency meeting on September 27 to discuss the next steps of naming an interim president before launching a nationwide search for his replacement.

“Brett’s vision and leadership have taken us to new heights,” said Visit Corpus Christi Board of Directors Chair Sam Canavati. “While he will be missed, he leaves behind a world-class team, and we are confident in their abilities. Our thorough transition plan ensures seamless continuity of our award-winning efforts.”
