Following the news earlier this year that current president and CEO of Visit Baltimore Al Hutchinson would be stepping down from the role at the end of June, the organization announced Kireem Swinton as interim CEO and provided details about the initial steps of a transition plan for the role.
Effective July 1, Vice President of Sales and Customer experience Kireem Swinton will assume the role of interim president and CEO of Visit Baltimore. Swinton brings a wealth of tourism and hospitality experience to the role, having over two decades of experience in senior roles with Marriott Hotels and Visit Seattle. During his time at Visit Baltimore, Swinton has been instrumental in securing a number of major citywide bookings such as the 2033 American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Annual Meeting & Exposition.
"I’m honored to step into this interim role to lead a dynamic team that continues to position Baltimore as a world-class destination," Swinton said in a press release. "As we move forward, I am committed to amplifying Baltimore’s positive stories, fostering relationships across the city and driving innovative strategies that attract major conventions and leisure visitors at this exciting time in our city’s history.”
The organization also said that Al Hutchinson will remain with Visit Baltimore for at least six months in a consulting role to help support a smooth transition.
“I commend the BCTB for selecting Kireem Swinton as interim president and CEO of Visit Baltimore,” Hutchinson said in a press release. “His skills, expertise and industry knowledge make him the perfect choice. I’m proud of what we’ve built together so far, and I look forward to supporting the board, Kireem and our best-in-class team through this transition to ensure that Baltimore’s tourism industry continues to thrive.”
