The New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge unveiled Phase Two of its $45 million transformation with the redesign of its Grand Ballroom and flexible meeting space totaling over 44,000 square feet.
Brooklyn’s largest hotel with 667 rooms and suites offers one of New York City’s biggest events venues, including the Grand Ballroom and more than 15 breakout rooms. The hotel’s renovation—which is taking place in three phases—is inspired by Brooklyn, representing layers of rich history and evolution.
At over 18,000 square feet, the Grand Ballroom can accommodate over 2,000 people for a reception. Its new look includes textured wallpaper and large-scale artwork showcasing Brooklyn photography. The ballroom's carpet is inspired by the city’s grid and maps, while structured blackened steel chandeliers hang overhead with irregular crystals that scallop down to represent buildings, scaffolding and railways.
Curtain treatments are reminiscent of the nearby harbor and shipping industry with use of ropes and knots. The ballroom’s banquet lobby welcomes event goers with modular seating and tech charging stations. Guests can stay connected via complimentary high speed wireless internet in public spaces.
Additional spaces inclube the 3,135-square-foot Northside Ballroom, which can host up to 300 people within its flexible layout. Plus, smaller rooms were renamed to represent Brooklyn’s surrounding neighborhoods.
Each of these rooms further tell the story of Brooklyn’s evolution from past to present through entrance signage that features the history of the designated neighborhood, and what exists today. The redesigned spaces can accommodate board meetings and functions, and boast huge windows overlooking Adams Street.

As part of the Brooklyn Marriott's commitment to local art, the hotel tapped into nearby Bushwick Art Collective by Novo Arts Studio and Marlaina Deppe. Novo Arts Studio is an artistic think tank that works collaboratively with graphic designers, photographers, painters and sculptors to create custom pieces. The hotel acquired several works of art, including a narrative abstract wall installation that illustrates the borough’s evolution.
Brooklyn Marriott’s catering program and menus are also themed to surrounding Brooklyn neighborhoods and their cultures, and many ingredients are sourced from local bakeries and vendors. For example, the Bensonhurst spread features Italian fare such as Béchamel Baked Gnocchi and Cherry Tomato Ragout, which draws inspiration from the flourishing Italian community within that neighborhood.
Meanwhile, the Brighton Beach selection features Eastern European dishes ranging from Perogies sautéed with onions, to a Roasted Beet Salad with Grilled Red Endive, Toasted Feta and Citrus Vinaigrette. The hotel also has a dedicated kitchen to accommodate kosher catering.
In May 2015, New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge introduced Phase One of its transformation, including The Bar (Greatroom), Front Desk and exclusive M Club Lounge. A chic meeting room located in the M Club Lounge features great views and wall-to-wall carpet featuring a Downtown Brooklyn map print. At The Bar, a curated menu provides a taste of the borough by showcasing local food purveyors such as Brooklyn Roasting Company, Brooklyn Winery, Ovenly bakery and McClure’s pickles.
Phase Three will see a complete renovation of the hotel’s 667 guest rooms, which will conclude in 2016.
When New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge opened in 1998, it was the first newly built, branded hotel in Brooklyn in more than 60 years.
