A contract covering 6,000 workers at 30 downtown hotels in Chicago expired this week, and labor and management have been unable to come to an agreement, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
The union, Unite Here Local 1, represents housekeepers, bell staff, restaurant and other workers at the properties. Talks are now under way with Hyatt Hotels Corp., Hilton Hotels Corp. and Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
“The hotel has come to every discussion in good faith and will continue to do so. We fully expect to come to an agreement with Unite Here without any labor disruption,” said John Schafer, vice president and managing director for Hyatt Hotels Corp.
