A citizen’s task force voted to recommend that the San Diego Convention Center be expanded to the tune of $753 million.
The 16-member task force estimated the new space would bring $698 million in annual revenue to the area. The panel recommended adding 197,000 square feet of exhibition space, 108,000 square feet of meeting space, 80,000 square feet of ballroom space and 49,000 square feet of retail space to the center. At present, the facility offers 899,000 square feet of total event space.
The plan would still require city council approval, an additional land purchase and financing.
