PCMA’s Mary Reynolds Kane and VEI’s Michael Doyle provided the following tips on running successful virtual events:
- Going virtual for the first time? Consult with someone experienced in working with associations.
- Like in-person events, have an end-to-end strategy and execution plan in place, work with a producer and plan far in advance.
- Use social moderators and live chat to create a community and hold people’s attention—turn your online event into an experience.
- Broadcast as many online sessions as you can from the same room on-site. This reduces the number of T1 lines, cameras, lighting and labor you need.
- Work with speakers in advance; prepare them for the camera.
- Stay on your toes and always ask questions.
