COLUMBUS, Ohio
Officials with the Greater Columbus Convention Center announced the property will undergo a $25 to $30 million renovation to modernize the look of its facilities.
Updates will be made to the building's finishes, ceilings, lighting and wall coverings in order to better match the feel of the newer Hilton Columbus Downtown and Hyatt Regency Hotels.
According to a recent article in The Columbus Dispatch, the design process is already underway and the renovations are expected to be completed by the end of 2015. The goal of this project is to attract more big-ticket meetings and conventions to the 1.7 million-square-foot convention center, in addition to bringing more revenue to the city and its surrounding hotels.
It was reported that funding for the renovation will come from bonds paid for by returns from the city’s 10% bed tax and increased convention business.
