Government Planners Rev Up for Yearly Meet

PORTLAND, Ore.

The Society of Government Meeting Professionals (SGMP) is hosting its annual education conference on May 6-8, 2014, in Portland, Ore., at the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower and the Oregon Convention Center. The Doubletree by Hilton Portland is also supporting the meeting.

“SGMP is excited to host our conference in what many consider to be the sustainability capital of the Unites States,” said SGMP national president Rob Coffman, CGMP. “We will deliver the best in industry education that will be focused on our members’ success in light of so many recent changes in government practices.”

All SGMP educational content at the conference will address topics within its nine core competencies, which are integral to the government meeting professional. These core competencies are: Education/Programming, Facilities & Services, Logistics, Financial & Contract Management, Technology, Leadership, Ethics, Protocol, and Federal, State & Local Travel. Attendees will earn at least eight education contact hours that include six blocks of specific training.

The Certified Government Meeting Professional course will be offered as a special pre-conference program. The "CGMP" defines the rules and regulations of the federal government for meetings and conferences and is the highest designation available that is specifically for government meeting professionals. The course teaches recognized industry practices and includes specific and thorough instruction in ethics, Federal budget and appropriations, acquisition and contracting, Federal travel regulations, RFPs, risk management and protocol.

“This is the largest annual gathering of government meeting professionals and it is the place to be for our members to learn from the experts and to network with the key partners they need to succeed.” said SGMP executive director & CEO Rob Bergeron, CAE, CGMP. “All attendees will expand their knowledge of best practices and updated industry standards while earning eight education contact hours and our supplier members will expand their market base by networking in the most significant expo hall of its kind.”

The 2014 NEC & Expo will be SGMP’s 32nd annual education conference.

The Society of Government Meeting Professionals (SGMP) was founded in 1981 and is the only national organization in the United States dedicated exclusively to individuals who plan and execute government meetings.
