SEA ISLAND, Ga.
Sea Island, a Forbes Five Star resort on the coast of Georgia, announced the completion of a $40 million expansion project at The Cloister that includes a new Garden Wing comprising 63 beautiful new guest rooms, as well as a 5,000-square-foot ballroom. These new additions debut as Sea Island celebrates the 10th anniversary of the opening of the completely rebuilt Cloister in April 2006.
“Ten years ago we celebrated the rebuilding and reopening of The Cloister, and we are thrilled to begin a new chapter with additional world-class accommodations and facilities,” said Scott Steilen, president of Sea Island. “We are humbled that so many guests choose to return to Sea Island year after year, and with these new additions we’re looking forward to introducing even more travelers to the resort.”
Just south of The Cloister Chapel and across a landscaped garden from the existing South Wing, the new Garden Wing reflects the signature Addison Mizner Mediterranean design seen throughout Sea Island.
The new guest rooms average 560 square feet, each featuring lustrous wood furnishings, exposed beam ceilings, overstuffed chairs, hardwood floors, Carrara marble bathrooms and showers, and handcrafted rugs. With the addition of the Garden Wing, The Cloister now offers 267 elegant accommodations, all centrally located to the resort’s full spectrum of amenities and activities, including the Spa at Sea Island, The Beach Club, Sea Island Yacht Club and multiple, distinct dining venues. The expansion project was built by renowned architecture firm Hart Howerton and J.E. Dunn Construction.
In November 2015, Sea Island unveiled the 5,000-square-foot Mizner Ballroom in The Cloister’s main building. The multi-functional addition complements the existing ballroom at The Cloister, and brings added meeting space for private conferences, executive retreats, receptions, dinners and meetings.
Sea Island, which consists of The Cloister, The Lodge at Sea Island Golf Club and The Inn at Sea Island, offers 51,000 total square feet of flexible, indoor and outdoor event space overlooking the coastline.
