When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
Or at least that was the take from famed rebel journalist Hunter S. Thompson.
Being weird also figures into prominent destination slogans, such as those from Austin, Texas, and Portland, Oregon, who, above all, don’t want to lose their lovable brand of weirdness.
Speaker KiKi L’Italien, president and CEO of Amplified Growth and host of Association Chat, is taking this life lesson to heart for her latest presentation topic, “Design Thinking for Better Engagement.”
L’Italien uncorked her latest lesson at Meetings Today LIVE! West, held April 29-May 2, 2018, at the new Park MGM in Las Vegas, and will showcase it again at two more Meetings Today LIVE! events held May 20-23, 2018, in St. Louis and Oct. 28-31, 2018, in Marco Island, Florida.
“You need to add a little bit of weird to your life,” L’Italien advised in a video from Meetings Today LIVE! West in Las Vegas, and provided the following key highlights to consider:
1. You Need to Be Intentional About Designing Your Experience: “Unintended results happen if you’re not intentional about what those experiences are, what those emotions are, that go into an engagement.”
2. What Exactly Is the Framework for Design Thinking?: "There are five different elements that go into design thinking, and [we discussed] how you can apply that to any industry, project or even your life."
3. How Do You Incorporate a Little Weirdness Into Your Life?: “You hear ‘stay weird, keep weird, be weird.’ Seriously, do it. You need to figure out a way to push outside your comfort zone so that you can create results, events, meetings that are really going to have an impact and encourage engagement.
"...Because the one thing that never changes is people still need to get together and connect for really meaningful things, meaningful conversations, meaningful relationships, that are going to end up pushing industries; they’re going to end up pushing causes much further down the field.”
