Las Vegas Rebooks 3 Coronavirus-Postponed Events

Las Vegas has rebooked three events that cancelled their dates following the outbreak of COVID-9, or coronavirus, in the U.S.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) announced the expos have confirmed dates in the city for late summer and fall 2020.

“As we are all doing our part to slow the spread of COVID-19, some shows in the near term that were scheduled at the Las Vegas Convention Center had to postpone,” said Lori Nelson-Kraft, LVCVA senior vice president of communication and government affairs.

“However, our team has been working diligently with our loyal clients and several of the cancelled shows have committed to returning later this year, provided health officials deem it safe to do so. We look forward to welcoming these shows back to the destination.”

Las Vegas Convention Center Expansion On Track

In other Las Vegas meetings and conventions news, the LVCVA announced that the massive expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center hit the milestone of pouring 600,000 square feet of concrete flooring in the main exhibit hall of its West Hall expansion.

The LVCVA said the process will take between four and five months to complete. The expansion project is now 77% complete, according to the LVCVA.

The $980-million expansion of the West Hall, which includes an outdoor plaza and grand atrium, will add 1.4 million square feet of space to the convention center’s existing 3.2-million-square-foot campus.

The expansion is on track to be completed in December 2020.

Following is “Concrete Pour & Expansion by the Numbers” information provided by the LVCVA:

  • 75 million pounds of concrete will be used to fill the exhibit hall floor. This will require approximately 1,800 trips by fully loaded concrete trucks.
  • The exhibit hall floor is a 10-inch reinforced concrete slab capable of supporting the LVCVA’s largest tradeshow exhibits.
  • The exhibit floor will include plumbing, electrical and data infrastructure so exhibitors can connect without the use of on-ground wiring.
  • 2,173,337: Hours of work crews have logged since construction began in 2018.
  • 1.4 million: Square feet of space the LVCC expansion will add to the existing 3.2 million square feet of space at the LVCC.
  • 333: Number of volleyball courts the 600,000-square-foot expansion hall could accommodate.
  • 328,000: Square feet of space in the new exhibit hall that will be column-free, making it the largest column-free space in North America.

Time-lapse footage of the concrete pour, as well as the latest photos of the expansion, are available on the LVCVA’s website.
