APPLETON, Wisc.
Proponents of a $20 million downtown exhibition center say the project hinges on a series of key decisions that will be made this spring.
Planners of the project are eager to secure further political approval for the project before bond market rates go up and make construction much more expensive. In November, the city pledged $3.4 million in its budget for the project.
The next crucial step will be the sale of a county-owned parking lot that will make way for the 30,000-square-foot exhibition space, which would connect to the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel by an elevated walkway.
For that to happen, committees at the county and city level will need to agree on terms and approve the $2 million purchase of the parking lot. Planners hope to have the common council and county board vote on the purchase this month.
