Raleigh Issuing RFP for Conv. Center Hotel

 RALEIGH, N.C.

With multiple developers already having expressed interest, City Council has voted unanimously today to issue a request-for-proposals to develop a new hotel across the street from the Raleigh Convention Center.

Studies suggest a vacant downtown half-acre lot would be suitable for mixed use, including restaurant, hotel, residential and office use. According to a city release, the City of Raleigh and other downtown advocates want more hotel rooms near the convention center so that it can host larger events.

Residence Inn recently proposed an extended-stay hotel on the city-owned land. Summit Hospitality Group president Doyle Parrish said his company has secured tentative financing for the project. In addition, the city received a letter proposing a 150-room boutique hotel and restaurant in a partnership between a DC firm and Kimpton Hotels. The city says other groups also have expressed interest in the site.
