The Santa Catalina Island Company (SCICo), which has operated lodging, dining, sightseeing and expeditions on Catalina Island for 118 years, recently completed major renovations to the Hotel Atwater in Avalon.
To celebrate its recent grand re-opening, SCICo is offering the ‘Atwater Getaway Plus Package’, which includes complimentary boat tickets and Catalina Expeditions activities with a stay at the Hotel Atwater.
Renovations to the hotel, originally built by William Wrigley Jr., aim to restore its 1920s charm with a bright, two-story lobby with updated interior designs. The entry now features original blue, gold and black Catalina tiles. Enlarged prints of colorful vintage Catalina postcards and posters set around a lovely 16th century sunburst mirror.
The guest rooms were completely refurbished with new carpeting, dark wood furniture, queen-sized beds, ceiling fans, television and telephones. A burgundy-and-gold checkered carpet is offset with white walls and linens.
The Atwater Getaway Plus Package is available through March 16, 2013 on Fridays and Saturdays (except Thanksgiving weekend which includes Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and the Christmas and New Years week from December 26th through January 5th, 2013). The Atwater Getaway Plus Package includes a complimentary round-trip boat ticket on the Catalina Express or Catalina Flyer and complimentary use of select Catalina Expeditions such as the Undersea Expedition, Avalon Theatre movie tickets and access to the 32-foot high rock-climbing wall, as well as kayak rental and mini golf. Packages start at $129 per person for the first night with additional nights starting at $99 per person (double occupancy).
Non-package nightly winter weekend rates at the Hotel Atwater range from $99 (standard room) to $219 (suite) and summer weekend rates range from $159 to $389 per night.
